Pizza is a good way to start the week!
So as of the 18th April 2016, I became one of Artrix's newest team members. My name is Josie and I am currently a second year BA (Hons) student, studying Applied Performance at Birmingham School of Acting. I have joined Artrix's team for a six week work placement, in the hope that I will leave understanding how a multi-disciplinary arts centre, such as Artrix, works and will have experienced, first-hand, just how much hard work goes into creating such a versatile and creative space.
I will be using this blog as a way to document the goings-on of my time at Artrix, and to give myself a platform to reflect on everything I am learning and doing week by week.
It all started on Monday morning when I jumped on the train and headed to Bromsgrove to start my six week placement. Luckily for me, a staff meeting was organised, so I had been handed a perfect opportunity to meet the whole team on the first day and find out what everyone's roles and responsibilities are within the centre (we also got pizza for lunch, which I must say, is always a bonus!)
My first week has included heading to BBC Hereford & Worcester alongside Artrix's Director, Hannah, Phillips to discuss a new and exciting project, attending a rehearsal in BSA with the Applied Performance first years who will be performing at 'Artrix: The Next Decade.' Whilst also getting my bar training and helping out in the café during the daytime.
I have also been given the privilege of supporting Mel with our amazing Artrix youth theatre 'Out of the Box' as they are starting to work towards their end of term show -'The Urban Jungle'. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first two sessions with both the Junior and the Senior groups, and I am very excited to continue working with the talented bunch of young people that make Out of the Box what it is!
And last but not least, I have been joining in with 'Dance Baby' on a Friday, which is just heaps of fun.. babies, toddlers and grown-ups together, having a good old boogie and meeting new friends!
This week has mainly been about getting myself familiar and finding out about all the exciting projects that Artrix has going on, joining in with the buzz of preparation for the ' Artrix: The Next Decade' and trying to get myself involved in as much as I possibly can as to get the most out of my time here.
